What we collect

When you join the Akou waitlist, you provide your email address. The signup form has a single field.

After joining, you may also choose to tell us:

  • your current Greek proficiency: Beginner, Basic / rusty, Conversational or Advanced
  • whether you grew up around Greek, that is, whether you would describe yourself as a heritage speaker

These extra questions are optional. You can skip them and stay on the waitlist exactly the same. We do not ask you to provide your full name, phone number, age or precise location through the waitlist.

Technical information

To deliver and secure this website, the service providers Akou uses to run it may automatically process technical information about your visit. This generally includes your IP address, browser and device information, and request or log information such as which pages were requested and when. An approximate location can be derived from an IP address. You are never asked to enter any of this, and it is a normal part of serving a website rather than something Akou collects from you. This site is hosted on Vercel.

Website analytics

This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits, so Akou can see which pages people read and whether the waitlist is reaching anyone. According to Vercel’s documentation it does not use third-party cookies; instead a visitor is identified by a hash created from the incoming request, and that identifier is discarded after 24 hours. What is recorded with each data point is the time, the page URL and referrer, an approximate location such as country, region and city, and your device type, operating system and browser.

One additional event is recorded when a waitlist signup succeeds, so Akou can tell how many people join and whether they joined from the top of the page or the bottom. It carries nothing else. Your email address is never sent to analytics, and there is no advertising pixel, no cross-site tracking and no session recording on this site.

Why we use it

We use your email address to:

  • manage the Akou waitlist
  • send early-access and launch updates
  • send relevant Akou product updates

If you answer the optional questions, we use those answers to:

  • understand who is interested in Akou
  • understand what people learning Greek need
  • inform early-access and product decisions

Answering is optional and does not affect whether you can join the Akou waitlist. The answers are stored as subscriber tags on your record in Kit, not in a separate Akou database. We do not sell your email address or your answers, and we do not use them for unrelated advertising or third-party marketing.

Kit

Akou uses Kit to manage its email list and send email. Kit stores and processes subscriber email addresses and, where you have given them, the optional Greek profile tags described above, on Akou’s behalf, for managing subscribers and sending these emails. Kit runs its own systems and infrastructure, which Akou does not control. You can read Kit’s privacy information (opens in a new tab) for how they handle it.

Where your information is processed

Kit, the providers used to host this site, and their own service providers operate internationally. That means information covered by this policy may be processed or stored outside Australia, including in the United States.

Sharing Akou

After you join, Akou offers two ways to pass it on. “Share Akou” opens your browser or device’s own share sheet, and “Copy link” copies the Akou link to your clipboard. Both are handled entirely by your browser or operating system. Akou does not receive your contacts, who you share the link with, the contents of any message you send, or which app you choose. The shared link carries a tag marking it as a waitlist share; it does not identify you or the person you send it to.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist information for as long as it is reasonably needed to manage the Akou waitlist and related communications, or until it is no longer required for those purposes.

Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Use it at any time and we will stop emailing you. Unsubscribing stops the emails; it does not by itself erase your subscriber record in Kit. If you want your details removed, email us using the address below.

Changes

Akou is pre-launch, and this policy will change as the product develops. The current version always lives on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
